Lions fail to roar
23-07-10
Carmel kept alive their hopes of promotion from the Chester & District Midweek League Division Eight with a routine eight-wicket victory over the Red Lion.
The pub side were dismissed for just 45 in 17.1 overs as the wickets were shared around Carmel's bowling attack on a cool evening at Pen-y-Gelli.
Derek Johnson (2-6), Matthew Prescott (2-3) and Michael Harrison (2-1) all claimed a brace of wickets each while Jonathan Hunter (1-7) and Dafydd Timothy (1-13) both finished with a wicket apiece.
Carmel lost opening batsman Danny Owens (6) and Derek Johnson (4) cheaply but Gwion Dafydd (15 not out) and wicketkeeper Dafydd Bailey (7no) eased the nerves as they saw the hosts home in 7.3 overs without further loss. Full scorecard here...
The result means Carmel still have a chance to win promotion into Division Seven and face back-to-back encounters against fellow hopefuls Chester Asian XI in the next two weeks.
