Bethesda thrashed!
11-07-10
Gwion Dafydd starred with bat and ball as Carmel's Second XI kept alive their hopes of promotion from North Wales Cricket League Division Four with an emphatic win over nine-man Bethesda at Pen-y-Gelli.
Openers Derek Johnson and Mike Jones made a solid start for Carmel after stand-in skipper Dafydd Timothy opted to make first use of a superb Pen-y-Gelli track.
Jones eventually fell for 13 but Johnson (54) stepped up to the plate as he and Dafydd shared a 122-run partnership for the second wicket before Dafydd and Alex Blythin enjoyed an 81-run stand for the third wicket.
Dafydd eventually fell for 74 but Blythin (52) was able to continue the momentum with Lee Rowles (15) as Carmel posted a commanding 227/5 from their 45 overs.
Bethesda refused to throw in the towel after the tea interval and skipper Timothy (0-40) was frustrated as he had a rare afternoon without a wicket at Pen-y-Gelli.
Johnson (1-18) eventually got the crucial breakthrough before spin pairing Rowles (3-22) and Dafydd (3-31) ran through the batting line-up as they claimed three wickets apiece to dismiss the visitors for 113 in 33 overs. Full scorecard here...
