Second XI bounce back
05-07-10
Jonathan Fisher hit an unbeaten half-century as Carmel's Second XI bounced back from their crushing defeat to Mochdre 24 hours earlier with a seven-wicket victory over Corus Colors.
Skipper Barry McGauty won the toss and elected to insert the opposition in gale force conditions at Pen-y-Gelli.
Carmel initially struggled to make any inroads into a stubborn opposition batting line-up but after Timothy Abraham (2-32) had removed one of the openers Steve Skates (4-23) was able to decimate the middle order.
Spinner McGauty (2-34) also got in on the act before Dafydd Timothy (1-26) wrapped up the Corus innings for 122 in the 43rd over.
Carmel made an inauspicious start after Derek Johnson (8) fell early in the home side’s response after tea, but skipper McGauty (30) led the recovery.
McGauty took the score to 63 before he was bowled but ever-dependable Fisher eased any nerves in the dressing room with a patient half-century.
Fisher finished unbeaten on 55 as he and Alex Blythin (17 not out) eased Carmel past the target in the 37th over to give the hosts an 8-2 points victory. Full scorecard here…
