Second XI thrashed
04-07-10
Carmel’s Second XI missed the chance of closing the gap at the top of North Wales Cricket League Division Four after a crushing defeat to Mochdre.
There were few positives to be taken out of another shocking performance following last year’s embarrassing defeat as Carmel slumped to a 107-run loss and failed to collect any points.
Mochdre won the toss and made best use of the pitch to reach 219/4 from their 45 overs with Dafydd Timothy the pick of the attack as he collected 2-40 from his 12 overs.
Steve Skates (1-26) and Oliver Saynor (1-39) both chipped in with a wicket apiece but a lethargic fielding performance handed the home side the initiative.
Having scored over 300 the previous week and with the outfield like lightening there was cause for optimism that the visitors could chase down the total.
However, in a carbon copy of last season’s defeat the batting line-up easily succumbed to the home side’s bowling tactics and were dismissed for a paltry 112 in the 34th over.
Mike Jones (30), Barry McGauty (19), Timothy Abraham (13) and Gwion Dafydd (18 not out) made double figures as a number of players surrendered their wickets far too easily.
The result left Carmel on the wrong end of 10-0 points split and damaged their hopes of promotion at the half-way point of the season. Full scorecard here…
