Carmel's Midweek XI enjoyed mixed fortunes as they suffered defeat to Gresford in the Chester & District Midweek League but recorded a friendly win over new opponents Kinnerton.
Gwion Dafydd top scored with 40 and Dafydd Bailey finished unbeaten with 39 in the eight-wicket defeat away to Gresford on Tuesday, June 29th.
Carmel posted a respectable 136/6 off their 20 overs with Derek Johnson (15) and Chris Jones (17) also making valuable contributions.
However, the Carmel attack were frustrated by Gresford with left-arm seamer Jones (1-27) the only bowler to take a wicket as the home side knocked off the total in 18.5 overs. Full scorecard here…
Carmel enjoyed better luck in a friendly victory over wandering side Kinnerton in the first meeting between the clubs on Thursday, July 1st.
Teenager Jack Whitehouse was the star performer as he made his maiden half-century in senior cricket against the Wigan-based side.
Whitehouse retired unbeaten on 50 along with Nick Washbrook who also reached his half-century before stepping aside.
Stand-in wicketkeeper Jonny Hunter (11), Dafydd (11not out) and Stephen Skates (24no) all contributed in Carmel’s total of 167 from 20 overs.
The bowlers were rotated as Kinnerton were restricted to 92/6 with Christopher Davies (2-6) and Dafydd (2-9) both picking up a brace of wickets.
Washbrook (1-9) and Bailey (1-21) also claimed a victim apiece to see Carmel to victory by 75 runs. Full scorecard here…
