Saynor breaks record!
30-06-10
Oliver Saynor wrote his name into the record books as he blasted a superb 159 to help Carmel’s Second XI to a 166-run victory over Bersham in a run feast at Pen-y-Gelli.
Handed a rare opportunity to open the innings Saynor brought his maiden century up in just 60 balls as he and Barry McGauty (31) put on 138 for the first wicket.
Saynor then shared a 118 run partnership with Derek Johnson (82no) as he peppered the boundary in a memorable innings, which contained 17 x 4s and 8 x 6s.
He was eventually bowled for 159, the highest score in Carmel & District Cricket Club history, and broke a 24-year record held by Mike Jones.
Saynor scored nine more runs than Jones, who made 150 not out against Llandudno in May, 1986, as Carmel amassed a Second XI record score of 306/3 from their 45 overs.
On a belting Pen-y-Gelli track Carmel’s bowlers struggled to make any inroads into the Bersham batting line-up but the visitors did not possess a batsman of Saynor’s destructive abilities and crawled to 140/3 off their 45 overs.
Matthew Prescott (2-28) and Gwion Dafydd (1-17) were the only wicket takers as Carmel claimed an emphatic 10-0 victory. Full scorecard here…
