Rich Jones struck a superb 80 and Steve ‘Scooter’ Jones took five wickets to help Carmel’s First XI to a 60-run victory over Northop.
Cultured right-hander Rich Jones held the Carmel innings together with a patient knock as several batsmen got starts but were unable to convert.
Skipper Danny Oliver (10), Nick Washbrook (21), Gareth Hughes (11) and Andy Skates (10) all got themselves in but could not got progress further as Carmel were dismissed for 178 in the 44th over.
As has been so often the case the First XI’s bowlers were able to rescue the game and Steve ‘Scooter’ Jones returned match-winning figures of 5-15 off just 7.1 overs on his former stomping ground.
Jonathan Hunter (2-10) claimed a brace while Skates (1-39), Michael Harrison (1-19) and Christopher Davies (1-26) all got in on the act as Northop were dismissed for 118 with Washbrook showing a clean set of hands to take three catches.
The 8-2 points split lifted Carmel to within 10 points of the promotion places in North Wales Cricket League Division Two. Full scorecard here…
