Timothy Abraham hit a half-century as Carmel cruised to a 51-run victory over a St David’s College XI in a Sunday friendly played in the picturesque grounds of the Llandudno school.
Barry McGauty (11) and Gwion Dafydd (10) put on 27 for the first wicket before they fell in quick succession. And Carmel slipped to 34/3 after former St David’s pupil Andrew Abraham (2) was out caught after he mistimed a shot on a slow pitch.
But brother Timothy Abraham, also playing against his former school, and left-hander Michael Harrison rescued the Carmel innings.
Abraham peppered the boundary as he and Harrison enjoyed an 83-run stand for the fourth wicket before Harrison was bowled for 18.
Jon Fisher and Abraham continued the momentum and the latter brought up his half-century before he was dismissed a ball later.
Fisher (17 not out) and Osian Tennant (6no) saw Carmel reach 163/7 after Jack Whitehouse (0) and Oliver Davies (1) fell cheaply.
Left-arm seamer Harrison proved to be Carmel’s chief destroyer after the break between innings as he ran through the St David’s batting card to reduce the hosts to 22/3.
Harrison eventually finished with impressive figure of 3-13 from seven overs while mystery spinner Chris Davies (2-16) also chipped in with a couple of wickets from his four overs.
Youngsters Oliver Davies (1-27) and Whitehouse (1-23) were rewarded for their persistence with the ball while Tennant (1-20) also finished with a wicket from his four overs,
McGauty (2-5) wrapped up proceedings in his third over after a controlled spell of spin bowling as St David’s were eventually dismissed for 112 in 32.1 overs. Full scorecard here…
