First XI crush Brymbo
15-05-10
Danny Owens and Steve 'Scooter' Jones lead the club's runs and wickets totals respectively as they helped Carmel's First XI to an 84-run win over Brymbo Second XI at Pen-y-Gelli.
Aggressive opener Owens led the way with the bat as he struck his second North Wales Cricket League Division Two half-century of the season to put on 81 for the first wicket with Mike Jones (32) as Carmel were inserted after losing the toss.
Owens took his tally of runs in all competitions to 189 before he was caught on 54 but wicketkeeper-batsman Will Loveland (16) and Nick Washbrook (32) both quickly found their feet to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
A typically stoic 25 from skipper Danny Oliver helped push Carmel towards a large score but it was cameos from lower-order pair Jonathan Hunter (13) and Michael Harrison (10 not out) which saw the home side reach 203/6 off their 45 overs.
Scooter was chief destroyer with the ball after the tea interval as he decimated the Brymbo middle order to finish with impressive figures of 4-19 off his 12 overs with five maidens and moved on to 15 wickets for the season thus far.
Buoyed by their contributions with the bat fellow pacemen Harrison (2-28) and Hunter (2-26) followed up with two wickets apiece.
Mystery spinner Chris Davies also got among the wickets as he bamboozled the opposition to scoop 2-30 which saw Brymbo bowled out for just 119 to give Carmel a 9-1 points victory. Full scorecard here...
