First XI defeat Bangor
10-05-10
Danny Owens smashed a 39-ball half-century to help Carmel’s First XI claim their first win of the season away to Bangor Second XI.
After being set 176 for victory opener Owens wasted little time in dispatching the Bangor bowling attack to the boundary with a series of lusty blows.
Owens shared an opening stand of 74 with skipper Danny Oliver before he was eventually dismissed for 54. Oliver (23) followed shortly after when he was run out but number three Will Loveland continued his impressive early-season form.
Loveland (32) and the ever-solid Rich Jones (38) steadied the innings after a frenetic start and it was just left to Gwion Dafydd (9 not out) and Michael Harrison (2no) to eke out the final runs to see Carmel home.
Earlier, Steve ‘Scooter’ Jones had finished the pick of the bowling attack at Bangor’s Ty Newydd Ground as he collected 4-43 from his 12 overs.
Left-arm paceman Michael Harrison (2-30) bowled a solid spell while mystery bowler Chris Davies (2-41) also conjured up a brace of wickets.
Matthew Prescott (1-40) got his name in the wickets column with up-and-coming wicketkeeper Loveland taking two catches to further enhance his reputation with the gloves.
The four-wicket victory result gave Carmel a 7-3 share of the points and left them on 12 points after three rounds of fixtures in North Wales Cricket League Divison Two. Full scorecard here…
