Will Loveland hit a confident 38 and took three catches as a stand-in wicketkeeper to help Carmel's Friendly XI claim a morale-boosting 32-run victory over Corus Maeshafn.

After chastening defeats for both the First XI and Second XI in the North Wales Cricket League 24 hours earlier the club were finally able to register their first win of the season on a cold and blustery afternoon at Pen-y-Gelli.

Carmel overcame the early loss of Gareth Roberts (2) as Barry Mcgauty (34) and Loveland shared a 66-run partnership for the second wicket while Jon Fisher (28) also chipped in as the hosts closed their innings on 151 off 40 overs.

Left-arm seamer Michael Harrison (1-15) struck in his first over after tea to remove one of the openers with temporary gloveman Loveland taking a routine catch behind the stumps.

Matthew Prescott (2-10) followed up his impressive display on Saturday with two more victims at the top of the Maeshafn order before Lester Griffiths (1-16) got in on the act as Loveland took a smart diving catch.

Chris Davies took 2-11 while fellow spinners Barry Mcgauty and Gwion Dafydd both claimed a wicket apiece before lanky paceman Timothy Abraham (2-17) removed the final pair to dismiss the visitors for 119. Full scorecard here...
